Ceramic Coating FAQ

What is Ceramic Coating?

Our professional grade ceramic coatings are Titanium Dioxide and Silica Dioxide based products that when applied to the surfaces of your motorcycle, creates a layer of protection that is much harder and more durable than wax or sealants.  The coating chemically bonds with the paint, forming a protective layer that repels water, dirt and other contaminants.  It also adds a glossy finish, giving it a showroom-quality shine that lasts for years.

While ceramic coatings are know for their durability, there are several factors that can impact how long they last.

  • Quality of the Coating - Professional grade ceramic coatings with a high solid content can only be purchased by certified installers.
  • Application Technique - Proper application is crucial. Our skilled technicians at Phoenix Detailing use an HVLP spray system for even and consistent coverage, maximizing the coating's effectiveness.
  • Surface Preparation - Meticulous surface preparation is essential for optimal adhesion and durability. Our multi-step decontamination process removes existing waxes, sealants, and contaminants, ensuring a strong bond between the coating and your motorcycle's paint.
  • Maintenance - Proper aftercare significantly impacts the longevity of your ceramic coating. Regular gentle washing with pH-neutral car shampoo and avoiding harsh chemicals will help maintain its protective properties.
  • Protection From Scratches and Marring - With our Titanium Dioxide base coat, when fully cured, creates a protective layer that is 5 times stronger than the clear coat paint. This helps prevent those unsightly swirls and scuffs.
  • UV Protection - Ceramic coating provides a far superior level of protection compared to waxes and sealants. It guards against UV rays, oxidation, scratches, water spots, bird droppings, and chemical stains, common threats here in Melbourne.
  • Hydrophobic Properties - Rain becomes your friend. Ceramic coating creates a beading effect, causing water to sheet off effortlessly, taking dirt and grime along with it. This not only minimizes the need for washes but also makes post-rain cleaning a breeze, especially during Florida's frequent showers.
  • Easy to Clean - Keeping your motorcycle clean becomes significantly easier. The slick, hydrophobic surface repels dirt and dust, reducing the frequency of washes. Washing becomes less labor-intensive, requiring less scrubbing and drying time, saving you valuable time to enjoy your ride.
  • Enhanced Appearance - Witness a mirror-like finish that surpasses anything achievable with waxes. Ceramic coating enhances your motorcycle's paint clarity and depth, making those chrome accents pop.
  • Long Lasting Protection -Unlike waxes that need frequent reapplication, ceramic coating offers long-term protection, typically lasting 2-5 years depending on the quality of the product and proper maintenance.

Applying a ceramic coating to your motorcycle is a complex process that requires expertise and attention to detail.  Here’s a brief overview of the steps involved:

  • A thorough hand wash to remove any dirt, grime or residue that could interfere with the bonding process
  • Machine polish to remove imperfections in the paint
  • Application uses specialized equipment ensuring a uniform layer.
  • Correct curing environment.

All of our packages include an exterior detail and a “finishing primer polish.”  This process is necessary to prepare the surface to receive the ceramic coating, even with brand new vehicles.  This will only remove very minor defects in the paint.  If it is necessary to perform paint correction that is beyond what is included, there will be and additional charge.
